The purpose of this article is to promote public safety and
convenience by providing a street numbering system whereby addresses
may be identified with ease and speed essential to a quick response
of emergency services such as firefighting, police and emergency medical
care.
Pursuant to C.G.S. § 7-148(c), as amended, the office
of the Assessor shall assign street numbers to all buildings, parts
of buildings and house lots fronting on any street or highway within
the Town and may change numbers if necessary to have a more orderly
numbering system. When new streets are laid out, the office of the
Assessor shall promptly assign numbers to each lot on said street.
The office of the Assessor may assign numbers to streets or highways
all or portions of which have not been accepted by the Town or which
pass through private property. Such assignment of numbers shall not
be construed as acceptance of such streets or highways or any portion
thereof. Whenever the office of the Assessor has assigned a street
number to a property, the office of the Assessor shall promptly notify
by mail the owners, or the agents, of the property affected and shall
also notify the occupants of any building or part thereof to which
a number has been assigned. The office of the Assessor shall maintain
maps showing the street numbers assigned to each property and such
maps and records shall be open for public inspection.
Each owner, agent or occupant shall affix to said building or
part thereof, or to some object appurtenant thereto, the street number
or numbers assigned by the office of the Assessor. All numbers shall
be affixed so as to be visible from the street or highway. Numbers
shall be affixed within 60 days of receipt of notice from the office
of the Assessor.

The penalty for a violation of this article shall be $100 per
occurrence, enforced through the State of Connecticut Centralized
Infractions Bureau by the issuance of an infraction ticket pursuant
to C.G.S. § 51-164n.
