There shall be an officer of the City entitled "Public Safety Director." Such officer shall be appointed by the City Manager and shall be responsible for the administration of both the Fire Department and the Police Department as established in Chapter 7, Article III, and Chapter 19, Article II, respectively, of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Old Town. The Public Safety Director shall be the Chief of the Fire Department and shall have the authority and shall be responsible for the performance of the Fire Chief's duties as provided in § 7-30 of the Old Town Code of Ordinances and as otherwise provided by state or local law. The Public Safety Director shall also be the Chief of the Police Department and shall have the authority and shall be responsible for the performance of the Police Chief's duties as provided in § 19-25 of the Old Town Code of Ordinances and as otherwise provided by state or local law.
