No person, except those exempt from regulations by the General
Statutes, shall engage in peddling, vending, hawking or selling of
any goods, wares, or merchandise upon the public streets of the Town
of Griswold or from house to house within the Town of Griswold without
first obtaining a license therefor from the First Selectman/designee.
Any person desiring such a license shall make application to
the First Selectman/designee on forms to be provided by the Town.
The application shall be sworn and shall contain the following information:
C. A brief
description of the business to be conducted and the goods to be sold
and if the goods are produced or grown by the applicant;
D. If the
applicant is employed, the name and address of the employer, together
with the credentials establishing exact relationship;
E. If a vehicle
is to be used, a description of the same, together with the Connecticut/state
vehicle license number or other means of identification;
F. A statement
as to whether or not the applicant has been convicted of any crime,
misdemeanor, or violation of any municipal ordinance and, if so, the
nature of the offense and the punishment or penalty assessed therefor;
G. Such other
information as the First Selectman/designee may deem necessary for
the proper police protection of the Town.
The fees for such license shall be $100 and such license shall
expire one year succeeding the date of its issuance or a one-day/one-event
permit may be obtained for $25 per day/per event and shall expire
the succeeding day of its issuance. The fee shall be payable at the
time the application is made. Hours of use are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.,
unless otherwise authorized by the First Selectman/designee.
Any person issued a license under the terms of this chapter
shall be issued an identification badge by the First Selectman/designee.
Such identification badge shall contain the name and address of the
licensee, the expiration date of the license and the nature of the
business conducted and shall be prominently displayed on the vendor's
person or the display of merchandise. Please allow up to 48 hours
to generate the badge and issue a valid permit.
The First Selectman/designee shall keep a record of all licenses
issued by him- or herself under the provision of this chapter and
shall be authorized to revoke any license issued for any false statement
made by the applicant in his/her application or contained in the evidence
furnished by him/her to secure a license, or for violation by the
holder of the license of any Town ordinance, state law or bounced
check.
Any person who engages in the business of a peddler, vendor
or hawker without complying with the provisions of this chapter shall
be fined not more than $200.
The effective date of this chapter shall be 15 days after publication.
