Movable storage containers, including but not limited to portable
on-demand storage units (PODs), shall not be considered an accessory
building or structure and shall not be a permanent fixture on residential
property. One such storage container may be maintained on a residential
property for no more than 45 consecutive days and for no more than
90 days in total during any calendar year. However, such a storage
container required or necessary as part of the construction or renovation
of a structure located on the property may be maintained on a residential
property during the time period that the property owner possesses
a valid building permit for the construction work on the property
or nine months, whichever is less. Such storage container shall be
located only on a driveway or in a parking area, and not on a lawn
or other vegetated area, and shall not result in the elimination of
any required off-street parking spaces.
Movable storage containers located on a residential property on the effective date of this chapter shall be subject to the time frames set forth in §
153-1. The time frames to remove such existing containers from the property shall commence on June 10, 2022.
