East Whiteland Township shall conduct a systematic inspection of all properties within East Whiteland Township to determine compliance with this code. One-unit, two-unit and the dwelling units of multifamily residential structure are exempt from the systematic inspection requirement. Any common areas or public areas of a multifamily residential structure, are not exempt from the systematic inspection requirement.
The frequency of inspection shall be determined as necessary by the Chief Fire Official.
Following the first inspection, a report, invoice, and applicable application(s) for permit(s) or permit(s) will be sent to the owner and/or occupant via regular mail and/or email for each occupiable space including common areas of a building.
If, during the first inspection, any violations of the (IFC) International Fire Code 2009 are found, a second inspection will take place following the expiration of the time limit identified in the report for the violations to be corrected. Then, a third inspection will take place following the expiration of the time limit identified in the report for the violations to be corrected. If violations are found at the conclusion of the third inspection, the occupant will be subject to the penalty provisions of Chapter 90: Fire Prevention, § 90-3, Subsection G of the Code of the Township of East Whiteland.
An invoice will be issued at the completion of each inspection and shall be payable within 30 days of the date thereof. Two additional notices will be sent out at 60 and 90 days if payment is not received. If for any reason the inspection fees are not paid when due, interest at the rate of 6% on the amount of such outstanding fees shall be calculated beginning with the original due date of the fees, and a penalty of 5% shall be added to the flat rate of such fees for nonpayment thereof. If payment is not received within 120 days of the date of the first invoice, the Township may sue the owner and/or occupant owing the inspection fees for the recovery of any such fees due or unpaid. Where suit is brought for the recovery of these fees or other appropriate remedy undertaken, the owner and/or occupant liable therefore shall, in addition, be responsible and liable for the costs of collection including attorneys' fees.

An additional fee of 50% of the first inspection fee will be assessed for each additional inspection that is a result of previous fire code violations that have not been corrected after the first and second inspections.
