Pursuant to the provisions of the Vehicle and
Traffic Law of the State of New York, as amended, the Department of
Public Works of the Village or the Nassau County Police Department
is hereby authorized to remove and store any vehicle parked or abandoned
on a public highway or municipal parking field within the Village.
Any such vehicle so removed shall be impounded
and stored in a place within the Village or contiguous thereto, designated
by the Department of Public Works or the Nassau County Police Department,
and shall be held until the owner or operator thereof shall call for
and remove the same.
Before any vehicle so impounded is released,
the owner or operator thereof shall pay the Department of Public Works
or the Nassau County Police Department, for the account of the Village,
a charge of $5 for the cost of such impounding, together with a charge
of $2 per day for each and every day such vehicle is so stored. In

of the Village, any reasonable expense for towing and removing such
vehicle from the public highway or municipal parking field, whereon
it was parked or abandoned, to such place of storage. Such charges
aforesaid shall be a lien on any vehicle so impounded and stored and
shall be paid before the same shall be released from the custody of
the Department of Public Works or the Nassau County Police Department.
It shall be the duty of the police to ascertain
to the extent possible the owner or person in charge of any vehicle
removed and stored pursuant to this article and to notify said person
of the removal and disposition of such vehicle and of the amount which
will be required to redeem the same.
