[HISTORY: Adopted by the Town Board of the Town of Wallkill 12-14-1972 by L.L. No. 5-1972. Amendments noted where applicable.]
The Town Board finds that the cost for publication in the official town newspaper pursuant to Town Law has increased over the years to the point where the cost is prohibitive. Various amendments to the Zoning Ordinance have been made which required the expenditure of several hundred dollars. It is contemplated that in the near future amendments will be made to the Zoning Ordinance which might run many pages and thereby require the expenditure of considerable money for the publication in the official town newspaper. Therefore, the Town Board desires to enact legislation which will permit the publication of proposed ordinances or local laws and adopted ordinances by publishing merely a synopsis of the proposed ordinances or local laws and adopted ordinances.
It shall hereafter be lawful for the Town Clerk of the Town of Wallkill to publish a synopsis of any proposed ordinance or local law in the official town newspaper in lieu of the entire text of said proposed ordinance or local law.
No such ordinance or local law shall be adopted by the Town Board of the Town of Wallkill until a public hearing shall be held thereon in its final form pursuant to the requirements of the Town Law, after due public notice. Such public notice shall contain the title of the proposed ordinance or local law and a brief explanatory statement thereof.
Following the adoption of any ordinance, the Town Clerk shall cause the adopted ordinance or a summary thereof, describing same in general terms, to be published in the official town newspaper.
