The following provisions shall apply in all B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6 and BA Districts:
A. 
The maximum area of wall sign graphics shall be for each linear foot of building frontage occupied by the enterprise on which the sign is placed.
(1) 
B1 District: 1 1/2 square feet, except theaters, which shall be three square feet.
(2) 
B2, B3, B4, B5, B6 and BA Districts two square feet, except theaters, which shall be three square feet.
B. 
Wall signs shall not extend beyond the ends or over the top of the wall to which attached.
C. 
It may extend above the levels of the ground floor, providing that the following criteria are met:
(1) 
Signs may not be attached to the road frontage wall.
(2) 
Must advertise occupants' business.
D. 
Any part of a sign extended over pedestrian traffic areas shall have a minimum clearance of seven feet six inches.
E. 
Copy-change wall signs shall be permitted on theaters only.
The following provisions shall apply in all B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6 and BA Districts:
A. 
Projecting sign panels or sign symbols shall have not more than two faces, and the maximum area of the panel or symbol shall be:
(1) 
B1 District: seven square feet or 1,008 square inches, which rectangle shall have a ratio of 3:5, plus or minus 5%.
(2) 
B2, B3, B4, B5, B6 and BA Districts: 15 square feet.
B. 
Projecting sign panels or sign symbols shall be at 90° to the building face.
C. 
A projecting sign panel or sign symbol may extend five feet maximum from the building face or 1/3 the width of the sidewalk, whichever is less.
D. 
No part of a projecting sign shall extend into vehicular traffic areas, and any part over pedestrian traffic areas shall have a minimum clearance of eight feet.
E. 
Projecting signs shall not extend above six inches below the sill of the window of the second story of the building to which attached.
F. 
Projecting signs shall not be the copy-change type.
G. 
In the B1 District, the perimeter of the sign shall fit within a rectangle not exceeding seven square feet or 1,008 square inches.
The following provisions will apply in all B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6 and BA Districts:
A. 
Freestanding sign panels or sign symbols shall have not more than two faces and the maximum area of the panel or symbol shall be:
(1) 
B1 District: 15 square feet.
(2) 
B2, B3, B4, B5, B6 and BA Districts: 36 square feet.
B. 
The maximum height of a freestanding sign and support shall be:
(1) 
B1 District: 10 feet.
(2) 
B2, B3, B4, B5, B6 and BA Districts: 18 feet.
C. 
No part of a freestanding sign shall extend into vehicular traffic areas, and any part extending over pedestrian traffic areas shall have a minimum clearance of seven feet six inches.
D. 
Freestanding signs shall be placed in front yards only and shall be located not closer than six feet to a building, and no part shall extend over a public street or sidewalk.
E. 
Freestanding signs shall not be the copy-change type.
The following provisions shall apply in all B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6 and BA Districts:
A. 
No sign shall project or be suspended from a marquee canopy or awning.
B. 
Marquee and canopy signs shall be completely within the outer edges.
C. 
Copy-change marquee signs shall be permitted on theaters only.
D. 
For each linear foot of three sides of a marquee perimeter, the maximum area of graphics shall be as specified for wall signs in § 133-14A.
E. 
Awning graphics may be painted or affixed flat to the surface of the front or sides, but not in a sloped area.
The following provisions shall apply in all B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6 and BA Districts, but not BT or I2.
A. 
Window signs are permitted on second-floor windows, provided that it is in the space occupied by the business.
B. 
There shall be no more that one permanent window sign per window.
C. 
The sign advertises the occupants' business.
D. 
Forty percent of the window has to be transparent.
E. 
Exposed luminous tubing or neon tubing, or similar self-illuminated signs, are restricted to one per window and may not exceed two square feet.
The following provisions shall apply in all B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6 and BA Districts:
A. 
Sign plazas with sign directories may be established by the Board of Trustees on recommendation of the Planning Board.
B. 
The character and size of the sign matrix and the individual sign components comprising the directory and the type of illumination shall be as determined by the Planning Board.
C. 
Such directories shall contain identification of and direction to several enterprises but shall contain no promotional advertising.
The following provisions shall apply in all B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6 and BA Districts:
A. 
Banners on poles shall not exceed 12 square feet on ten-foot-high poles or 15 square feet on fifteen-foot-high poles. No pole shall exceed 15 feet in height.
B. 
Poles shall be portable; the shall be one pole per banner.
C. 
Banner shall be displayed only when the enterprise is open for business.
D. 
Any banner mounted on a pole or building shall not be applied flat along the face of the building. Such wall-mounted banner shall be suspended from a single staff or pole projecting from the building upward at an angle from between 100° and 135°.
E. 
Display of the American flag shall be in accord with customary flag etiquette as set forth in the guidelines prepared and practiced by the Armed Forces of the United States.
F. 
Exceptions:
(1) 
Event banners. Permits will be issued for a banner that relates to any local community, civic, charitable, social, educational, religious, athletic or commemorative function or assembly or any authorized by municipal authorities. Such banners:
(a) 
Shall not exceed 100 square feet.
(b) 
May be displayed up to 45 days before the event promoted.
(c) 
Removed within five days after the event promoted.
(d) 
May be installed on a building with permission from the owner of the building.
(e) 
Shall not be installed on any municipal building, structure, equipment or facility without written authorization from the Mayor.
(f) 
Installation, maintenance and removal is the sole responsibility of the owner of the said banner.
(g) 
More than one pole per banner allowed.
