Editor's Note: Ordinance No. MC 3083, adopted 11-12-1997, created the position of Legislative Research Officer. All references to "Corporation Legislative Counsel" and "Corporation Counsel" shall refer to "Legislative Research Officer."
It shall be expressly understood that the terms "Corporation Counsel" and "Corporation Legislative Counsel," for the purposes of this chapter, shall mean the Legislative Research Officer referred to in this article.
There shall be Legislative Research Officer, who shall be appointed by the Council by a majority vote thereof.
The Legislative Research Officer, prior to his appointment, shall be a counselor at law duly qualified and admitted to practice law in this state.
The office of Legislative Research Officer shall be separate and distinct from the office of Town Attorney, and the Legislative Research Officer shall serve under the sole direction of the Council for such term as may be provided.
The Legislative Research Officer shall receive such compensation as shall be provided by ordinance.
The Legislative Research Officer shall be the legal advisor to the Council. He shall advise the Council as to the form and sufficiency of all ordinances and resolutions prior to their passage and shall perform the duties hereinbefore set forth in § 7-19.
