Nominations and elections of state and federal officers, Judge
of Probate, Justices of the Peace and the Registrars of Voters shall
be conducted as prescribed in the Constitution and the C.G.S.
2.1.1. Registrars of Voters. The term of office for the Registrars of Voters
shall be the four-year term provided by Section 9-189(a) of the C.G.S.
2.1.2. Lists of electors. Lists of electors qualified to vote in accordance
with the United States Constitution, State Constitution and the C.G.S.
shall be prepared and administered by the Registrars of Voters.
Except as expressly modified by the provisions of this Charter,
minority representation on any board, commission, committee or similar
body of the Town appointed by the Board of Selectmen shall be determined
in accordance with the provisions of Section 9-167a of the General
Statutes as amended except in the case of a five-member board, commission,
committee, or similar body where the maximum number of any such board,
commission, committee or similar body from the same political party
shall be three. As provided in said section, the maximum number of
any such board, commission, committee or similar body who may be members
of the same political party shall be as specified in the following
table:

No person shall be eligible for election to any Town office
who is not at the time of his election an elector of said Town and
any person ceasing to be an elector of said Town shall thereupon cease
to hold office in the Town. Persons may become electors as prescribed
in the Constitution and the C.G.S.
When any regular or special municipal election conducted pursuant
to the provisions of this Charter results in a tie, and all but one
of the tied candidates shall not have voluntarily retired from the
contest, an adjourned election shall be conducted in accordance with
the provisions of Section 9-332 of the C.G.S. to determine who shall
be elected.
Any vacancy in any elective Town office shall be filled by appointment of the Board of Selectmen for the balance of the term for which the person vacating the office had been elected. In the case of comparable qualifications of affiliated and unaffiliated candidates, candidates affiliated with the party from which the vacancy occurred, shall have priority. The Town political committees have 30 days after public notice of a vacancy occurring to submit candidates to the Board of Selectmen. The Board of Selectmen will also provide public notice to Town residents that any interested electable candidate can apply directly to them, no matter their party affiliation or nonaffiliation. The Board of Selectmen will discuss the candidacy of all nominees, vote and make transparent the reason for their choice in a public meeting. Such vacancy shall be filled by the Board of Selectmen appointment of the most qualified candidate and take office as provided for in the Charter and in accordance with Minority Representation Section
2.3 of this Charter.
There shall be one voting district as existed on the effective
date of this Charter.
