There is hereby created the office of Electrical Inspector and Traffic Maintenance Repairman for the City of Margate City, the definition of which and examples of work and requirements are as set forth below.
Under direction, the Electrical Inspector and Traffic Maintenance Repairman inspects electrical installations to assure compliance with rules and regulations, performs the work involved in the installation, repair and maintenance of traffic signal systems, keeps related records and does related work as required.
Examples of the work of the Electrical Inspector and Traffic Maintenance Repairman are as follows:
A. 
Examines plans for the installation of electrical wiring and appliances to see that they comply with the Building Code.[1]

B. 
Issues electrical work permits if the working plans are approved.
C. 
Sees that electrical repairs and alterations conform to the established rules and regulations.
D. 
Periodically inspects electrical installations and wiring within buildings to assure that electrical installation and alteration work follows approved plans.
E. 
Makes needed investigations and issues licenses.
F. 
Performs the work involved in the erection of traffic signal installations, the installation and splicing of underground cables and the wiring of control boxes and the repair and maintenance of controllers and related equipment.
G. 
Diagnoses traffic signal failures, including checking out circuits, troubleshooting and the repair or replacement of controllers.
H. 
Performs the benchwork necessary for the repair, testing and approving for service of controllers and related equipment.
I. 
Operates motor vehicle equipment when necessary.
J. 
May perform the routine work involved in installing traffic lights, changing bulbs, etc.
K. 
Prepares suitable reports.
L. 
Establishes and maintains records and files.
Requirements for the office of Electrical Inspector and Traffic Maintenance Repairman shall be as follows:
A. 
Graduation from high school, vocational high school or possession of an approved high school equivalency certificate.
B. 
Four years of experience in electrical work involving a variety of installation, maintenance and repair tasks.
C. 
Considerable knowledge of the local Electrical Code,[1] of the proper procedures used in inspecting electrical installations and appliances, of the procedures used in making thorough inspections of electrical installations, of preparing cost estimates in accordance with current practices and of the problems, procedures and equipment involved in the installation, repair and maintenance of traffic signal systems.

D. 
Ability to:
(1) 
Analyze and interpret codes pertaining to electrical installations.
(2) 
Review electrical plans and specifications prepared by others for accuracy and conformity.
(3) 
Work harmoniously with property owners, private contractors and others.
(4) 
Make thorough electrical investigations and inspections.
(5) 
Issue electrical work permits.
(6) 
Make emergency repairs under adverse conditions.
(7) 
Prepare clear, sound, accurate and informative reports of investigations and work completed.
E. 
Good health and freedom from disabling physical and mental defects which would impair the proper performance of the required duties or which might endanger the health and safety of oneself or others.
The salary of said Electrical Inspector and Traffic Maintenance Repairman shall be as set forth in the annual Salary Ordinance.
