The Maywood Civil Defense Fire and Rescue Unit, as heretofore formed, equipped and organized, is hereby abolished.
Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:14-95, there is hereby established in the Borough of Maywood a Junior Fire Fighters' Program.
The Maywood Junior Fire Fighters' Program shall have the following purposes:
A. 
To augment the Maywood Volunteer Fire Department.
B. 
To provide training for junior fire fighters and fire fighters on the waiting list of the Volunteer Fire Department.
C. 
To provide rescue training to members of the Volunteer Fire Department when so authorized.

Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:14-96, no person shall be eligible for membership in the Maywood Junior Fire Fighters' Program who is less than 16 or more than 21 years of age. Persons under the age of 18 years shall be required to obtain permission to join the Junior Fire Fighters' Program from their parents or guardian. Such permission shall be in writing and acknowledged by a notary public of the State of New Jersey. The candidate must be a resident of the Borough of Maywood.
The Junior Fire Fighters' Program shall consist of no more than 25 members, subject to the approval of the Board of Fire Officers.
The rules and regulations shall be in accordance with "Appendix B - Guideline/Procedures of the Maywood Fire Department Junior Fire Fighters' Program" of the bylaws of the Maywood Fire Department.
Resignations from the Junior Fire Fighters' Program shall be forwarded to the Board of Fire Officers for appropriate action.
Junior members are subject to the chain of command and rules and regulations of the fire company to which they have been assigned, e.g., Peerless, Protection or Undine.
