Heat shall be furnished as prescribed in Chapter 198, Heating of Dwellings.
All buildings or portions of buildings occupied as dwellings shall be lighted and ventilated by means of at least one window in each room, said window opening to the outer air, and shall be provided with a plentiful supply of pure water and at least one water closet or privy for each family. There shall also be provided one sink for each family which sink shall be connected with a properly constructed sewage disposal system, and this plumbing must be kept at all times in a sanitary condition.
Any person or persons violating any of the provisions of this Article shall be liable to the penalties prescribed herein.

No person, persons or body corporate shall hereafter erect or cause to be erected or converted to a new purpose by alteration any building or structure which shall be inadequate or defective in respect to strength, ventilation, light, drainage or any other usual, proper or necessary provision or precaution, nor shall the builder, lessee, tenant or occupant of any such or of any other building or structure, without the right or ability of either to remedy or prevent the same, cause or allow any matter or thing to be or to be done in or about any such building or structure dangerous or prejudicial to life and health.
No owner, agent or lessee of any building or any part thereof shall lease or let or hire out the same or any portion thereof to be occupied as a place in which anyone shall dwell or lodge except when said building or such parts thereof are sufficiently lighted, ventilated, provided and accommodated and are in all respects in that condition of cleanliness and wholesomeness for which this Part III or any law of this state provides or in which they or either of them require any such premises to be kept.
All refrigerators or iceboxes maintained in any butcher shop or other mercantile business carried on in the Borough of Maywood shall be open at all times when said business is being carried on to inspection by the Board of Health or an authorized agent. No persons engaged in any such mercantile business shall allow any animal or vegetable matter which is foul or which is in a state of decay to remain within said refrigerator or icebox, nor shall said refrigerator or icebox be allowed to become foul or malodorous through the lack of proper cleaning and disinfecting.
No person having the right and legal power to prevent the same shall knowingly cause or permit any person to sleep or remain in any place dangerous or prejudicial to life or health by reasons of want of ventilation or drainage or by reason of the presence of any poisonous, noxious or offensive substance or any other cause detrimental to health.
No owner, agent, lessee or keeper of any building shall cause or allow so great a number of persons to dwell, be or sleep in any such building or any portions thereof as thereby to cause any danger or detriment to life or health.
