A. 
No person shall obstruct in any manner, including the parking of vehicles in, any area designated as a fire lane or fire apparatus access road, as defined in the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code.
B. 
Exceptions:
(1) 
Buses, loading or unloading passengers, provided that the driver remains with the vehicle and able to move the vehicle if necessary.
(2) 
Fire, rescue, or law enforcement vehicles while they are involved in emergency operations.

Posts, fences, vehicles, growth, trash, storage and other materials or objects shall not be placed or kept near fire hydrants, Fire Department inlet connections or fire protection system control valves in a manner that would prevent such equipment or fire hydrants from being immediately discernible. The Fire Department shall not be deterred or hindered from gaining immediate access to fire protection equipment or fire hydrants.

A. 
Any person violating any provision of § 95-7 or 95-8 maybe subject to fines as follows:
(1) 
Twenty dollars if paid with 30 calendar days at the County Treasurer's office.
(2) 
If not paid within 30 calendar days, a summons may be issued, upon which a fine of not more than $250 may be assessed.
B. 
In addition to the above penalties, any vehicle parked in violation of § 95-7 or 95-8 may be removed to a storage area in accordance with § 46.2-1213 of the Code of Virginia; provided, however, that no vehicle shall be removed from private property without the written request of the owner, lessee, or occupant of the premises. Any such removal shall be carried out by or under the direction of a law enforcement officer. As promptly as possible, each removal shall be reported to the County Fire Marshal and to the owner of the vehicle. Before regaining possession of the vehicle, the owner shall pay to the County all costs incidental to its removal and storage and locating the owner. Nothing in this article shall prevent any authorized officer from removing a vehicle in an emergency situation in such manner as he deems necessary.
A. 
Fire lanes/fire apparatus access roads within Shenandoah County shall be identified by either of the following two methods:
(1) 
Method number one:
(a) 
Fire lane fire apparatus access roads may be marked by the use of curbs and the pavement.
(b) 
Requirements for Curbs and pavement:
[1] 
Curbs need to be yellow, four inches in height.
[2] 
Every 70 feet, the pavement shall be marked with "NO PARKING FIRE LANE" in eighteen-inch Arabic, block letters with yellow paint.
(2) 
Method number two:
(a) 
Fire lane/fire apparatus access roads may be marked with an approved fire lane sign(s).
(b) 
Requirements for signs:
[1] 
Signs shall be positioned at the beginning and end of the fire lane and at seventy-foot intervals throughout the fire lane.
[2] 
Signs shall not exceed a setback of six feet from the curb or edge of the roadway.
[3] 
Signs shall be positioned where clearly visible to traffic.
[4] 
Signs shall not be obscured from view by bushes, shrubs, etc.
[5] 
Signs shall be marked with permanent "NO PARKING FIRE LANE."
[6] 
Sign shall have a minimum dimension of 12 inches wide by 18 inches high and have red letters on a white reflective background.
B. 
Markings and signs are to be provided and maintained by the owner of the property. The owner may choose to do both methods, or establish additional markings/signs as he/she deems necessary above what is required. The Fire Marshal may also require additional markings/signs depending on the site.
