Every member of the Department shall render reasonable assistance to a sick or injured person and call a doctor and/or ambulance, if necessary, in cases called to the attention to this Department. If an ambulance or a doctor does not arrive in reasonable time, the officer shall make another call to the Chief of Police. He shall obtain the full name, date of birth, residence, occupation and full description of the person injured and a statement of the attendant circumstances. If disability occurs on a public street or any public place under the jurisdiction of this Village, he shall carefully note contributory conditions, if any, such as broken pavement, excavation, streetlights not burning, snow and ice on the sidewalks, etc. He shall relay such conditions to the Chief of Police.
When a member of the Department observes a defect in the highway likely to cause an accident or damage, he shall promptly note the nature of the defect and the location in his memo book and forward such information to the Chief of Police, who shall record such defect and immediately notify the Highway Department which is concerned with such defect and location.
A. 
It shall be the duty of the investigating officer to see that the point of accident is properly policed after the vehicles have been removed and free of glass, foreign matter, oil, gasoline, etc.
B. 
It shall be the duty of the investigating officer to set up authorized emergency flares and warning lights at all scenes of accidents to prevent further injuries or damage.
If a doctor is needed at an accident scene, the investigating officer shall call and locate a doctor. If any doctor refuses or is unable to answer such call, the investigating officer shall record the doctor's name and reason for not being able to respond.
Every member of the Department, pursuant to § 603 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law, shall fill out Form MV-104A, as set forth in certain accidents.
Whenever tow service is required, the investigating officer shall ask the owner or operator of the vehicle involved in accident to choose his own tow service. If such owner or operator is not familiar with local service and so advises the officer, then the officer shall request the next wrecker on the established rotation list.
A. 
The Chief of Police shall have the responsibility that relatives or friends of persons killed are notified without unnecessary delay and notification recorded in the blotter. Names of deceased shall not be released to the press until notification is made.
B. 
If the party to be notified resides in the Village of Sag Harbor, notification shall be personally made by an officer.
C. 
If the party resides outside this geographical area, notification shall be made to the local department by teletype message or, if it is a neighboring department, by telephone, and the name of the officer advised shall be recorded.
