The Treasurer shall receive and safely keep all monies, warrants,
books, bonds and obligations entrusted to his/her care and shall pay
over all monies, bonds or other obligations of the City on warrants
or orders duly drawn, passed or ordered by the Board of Aldermen and
signed by the Mayor and attested by the City Clerk and having the
Seal of the City affixed thereto and not otherwise and shall perform
such other duties as may be required of him/her by ordinance.

A. Appointment. The City Treasurer shall be appointed by the
Mayor with the consent and approval of the Board of Aldermen and before
assuming the duties of his/her office shall enter into a bond with
two (2) or more good and sufficient sureties conditioned that he/she
will pay over all monies received by him/her by virtue of his/her
office and faithfully perform the duties of his/her office according
to law.
B. Duties. He/she shall pay all warrants duly drawn on him/her
when presented for payment, noting the number of the warrant, time
of presentation and amount for which it is drawn, in favor of whom
payable and shall pay such warrants in the order in which they are
presented and registered for payment out of the fund of the City on
which the warrant is drawn and he/she shall keep a list of warrants
paid, containing the date when paid and shall also write or stamp
the word "PAID" on the face of each warrant so paid.
C. Reports. The Treasurer shall report to the Board of Aldermen
on or before the first (1st) day of July of each year and at any other
time when required to do so by the Board the amount of receipts and
expenditures of the Treasury and the amount of money on hand and when
his/her successor shall be elected and duly qualified, he/she shall
pay over to him/her all dues from himself/herself or former Treasurer
and take receipts and duplicates for the same, one (1) of which shall
be filed with the City Clerk. He/she shall perform such other duties
as the Board of Aldermen may by resolution direct.
D. Compensation. The commission of the City Treasurer on all
monies received by him/her belonging to the City shall be as designated
by ordinance.
E. Transfer Of Funds. The Mayor and the Board of Aldermen of
the City of Versailles, Missouri, shall have the power to direct the
Treasurer of said City to transfer any fund of said City, except funds
derived from taxes levied for the payment of the bonded debt of said
City, from the fund to which under the present ordinances the same
is now credited to the general fund of said City.
The income from the sale of water by the City creates an ever
mounting surplus in the water account, more than enough for an insurable
reserve and it is hereby ordained that the City Collector may make
transactions to other funds as directed by the Board of Aldermen.
