This article shall apply to all employees of the Borough of Somerdale who are classified as full-time employees under applicable regulations of the State of New Jersey, Department of Civil Service, except that this article shall not apply to any employee hired or appointed after January 1, 1996.

Each applicable employee, as defined in § 41-4 of this article shall receive as additional compensation an amount as computed by the scales hereunder or in accordance with contracts in effect between the Borough of Somerdale and the employee. Said computation shall be a yearly amount and shall be based on each individual employee's current salary as contained in the Salary Ordinance then in effect or any contract existing between the Borough of Somerdale and the applicable employee.

The number of years of service contained in § 41-5 of this article shall be computed from the date an employee became employed with the Borough of Somerdale in the full-time capacity as specified therein. If a full-time employee leaves the employ of the Borough of Somerdale and returns within one year, he/she shall receive credit for service rendered during his/her previous employment for the purpose of computing time for longevity pay.
Each employee entitled to receive longevity pay under this article, with the exception of the members of the Police Department whose longevity payments are covered through their collective bargaining agreement, shall receive pay once a year, in the month of December, upon filing a voucher requesting payment.
The Mayor and Council of the Borough of Somerdale shall be required to provide for payment of longevity pay in the annual budget of the Borough of Somerdale in addition to the salaries contained in the Salary Ordinance.[1]
