Rules and regulations for cemeteries are as follows:
A. All lots
in the cemeteries owned and operated by the Town of Wilton shall not
be used for any purposes other than as a burial place for deceased
human beings.
B. Transfers
of gravesites shall be done by owners, or in the case of the owner
being deceased, the executor, administrator or if no such representative
has been appointed, all the members of the first surviving level of
heirs at law may transfer ownership of the plot. A signed, notarized
letter transferring ownership from the owner, deed holder or such
representative or heirs as set forth above must be filed the Town
Clerk to convey ownership to another person.
C. Graves shall
not be opened from November 15 to May 1, or when frost, wet conditions
and weather warrant refusal.
D. All funerals,
processions and vehicles, including monument and outside contractors,
will be under the control of the Superintendent of Highways while
in the cemetery.
E. All full
body interments during the week (Monday through Friday and Monday
through Thursday during summer hours) shall be in the cemetery by
2:00 p.m. Eastern standard time. After 2:00 p.m., an overtime fee
as set by the Town Board will be charged. No interment will be allowed
after 3:30 p.m. Eastern standard time. Cremains interments shall be
subject to the same rules.
F. All interments
on Saturdays, Sundays and Town of Wilton observed holidays, including
floating holidays and Fridays while the Town observes summer hours,
will be charged double the interment fee.
G. All cremains
are required to be in urns or an approved, noncorrosive container.
There shall be no more than two urns to a grave or one regular interment
and one urn.
H. All cremains
in a nonapproved container shall be interred in an urn vault.
I. All cremains
interred on a relative's gravesite shall have permission in the form
of a signed, notarized letter from the lot owner or deed holder.
J. All vault
setups will be at the discretion of the Superintendent of Highways
and/or supplier or manufacturer.
K. For safety
reasons, only cemetery personnel will be allowed in the area during
the closing of the grave.
L. All foundations
will be constructed by or under the direction of the Town of Wilton.
M. No vault
or mausoleum shall be aboveground.
N. The Town
of Wilton reserves the right to remove any monument or inscription
that, in the opinion of the Town Board, is unsightly or dangerous.
O. All flowers,
natural or artificial, shall be in urns and located directly to either
side of the monument.
P. The Town
of Wilton prohibits planting of shrubs and trees within the cemeteries
without Town Board approval.
Q. Any planting
or ground cover on grave soil or around monuments shall be prohibited.
R. No glass
containers or glass decorations are allowed.
S. Ornamentals,
decorations, figurines, etc., will be allowed, provided they are placed
to the front of the monument at a distance of no more that eight inches
from the monument.
T. The Town
of Wilton reserves the right to remove all flowers, wreaths, or other
decorations from lots as soon as they become unsightly or dangerous.
U. All persons
shall be allowed access to the cemetery during daylight hours, observing
all rules and speed limits which are in effect and with the respect
due the cemetery.
V. Heavy trucking
or other vehicular traffic shall be refused entrance to the cemetery
when, in the opinion of the Superintendent of Highways, injury to
roads, driveways and grounds might result.
X. Only Town
of Wilton employees and approved contractors shall do work in the
cemetery, including and not limited to the opening and closing of
graves.
Y. There shall
be no loitering.
Z. Anyone damaging
or vandalizing cemetery property, monuments, etc., may be prosecuted
to the full extent of the law.

A at the end of this chapter.

B at the end of this chapter.
