The Tree Warden shall exercise the duties of tree warden as
established by MGL c. 87, § 2. He/she shall have the care
and control of all public shade trees, shrubs, and growths except
those within a state highway. He/she is responsible for planting new
shade trees for the purpose of improving, protecting, shading, or
ornamenting the public way under the jurisdiction of the Park Commissioners.
He/she decides whether to permit any man-made alteration to public
shade trees. If requested by the Park Commissioners, he/she shall
have the care and control of the shade trees, shrubs, and growths
in public parks or open spaces. No tree shall be planted within a
public way without the approval of the Tree Warden and its location
being approved by the Select Board. He/she may make regulations for
the care and preservation of public shade trees and establish fines
and forfeitures for any violation.
The Select Board shall appoint one Tree Warden for a term of
three years.
