A "memorial bench" shall mean a bench as selected and approved at
the sole discretion of the governing body of the Borough of Dumont,
which shall include the bench and a memorial plaque which shall be
affixed to such bench and shall be inscribed with the name(s) of the
person(s) selected by the applicant. The style and design of the memorial
benches shall be aesthetically consistent from park to park, and the
manufacturer shall be approved by governing body prior to installation.
A "memorial tree" shall mean a tree as selected and approved at the
sole discretion of the governing body of the Borough of Dumont, which
shall include the tree and a memorial plaque which shall be affixed
to such tree and shall be inscribed with the name(s) of the persons(s)
selected by the applicant.
Anyone wishing to dedicate a memorial bench or memorial tree shall
make application to the Borough Clerk. A completed application shall
be reviewed by the governing body who will either approve, approve
with conditions, or deny the request.
The Borough of Dumont shall not be responsible for the replacement
of memorial benches, memorial trees, or related plaques that have
been destroyed or defaced due to vandalism or natural occurrences
such as fire or hurricanes. Applicants may request the replacement
of destroyed or defaced memorial benches, memorial trees, or related
plaques at their own cost and expense. No replacement memorial benches,
memorial trees, or related plaques shall be installed without the
express written approval of the governing body.
Memorial benches and memorial trees shall remain the property of
the Borough of Dumont. Dedications shall be honored for the period
as set forth by the Borough of Dumont on a case-by-case basis. At
the conclusion of this period, the memorial bench, memorial tree,
or related plaque may be removed by the Borough.
