A. 
There is an Indigenous Peoples' Affairs Commission for the Town of Indian Head.
B. 
The Commission shall be composed of four voting members appointed by the Town Council for terms of five years each. A voting member may be reappointed for successive terms of five years each. The voting members shall include:
(1) 
Two Piscataway or other Native American tribal members; and
(2) 
Two Town of Indian Head residents.
C. 
In addition to the four voting members, a member of the Town Council selected by the Council shall be an ex officio member of the Commission who shall not have a vote except to break a tie. The ex officio member shall serve a term of two years, except that the term of office shall terminate when the Council member leaves office.
D. 
In the event of a vacancy, a replacement Commission member shall have the same qualifications, and be appointed for the remainder of the unexpired term, in the same manner as the member whose vacancy is being filled.
E. 
The Chair of the Commission shall be appointed by the Town Council for a term of one year. The term of the Chair may be renewed for one or more successive terms of one year each.

F. 
The Town Council shall appoint a member of the Town staff as staff to the commission.
The Commission shall meet quarterly, or more frequently if necessary. Commission meetings shall take place on the second Monday of the month or on such other day as the Commission may determine.
The Commission has the following duties and responsibilities, in addition to such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Town Council:
A. 
Act as an exploratory commission to investigate, study and report to the Town Council on matters relating to the past and present roles of indigenous peoples in and around the Town of Indian Head, including, but not limited to:
(1) 
The derivation and historical significance of the Town's name, "Town of Indian Head";
(2) 
Offenses and discrimination perpetrated against indigenous peoples in and around the Town of Indian Head; and
(3) 
Public perceptions about indigenous peoples in and around the Town of Indian Head.
B. 
Make recommendations to the Town Council regarding educational efforts that the Town may undertake to educate the public about the indigenous peoples' heritage in and around the Town of Indian Head.
C. 
Conduct interviews, receive public opinion and make recommendations to the Town Council regarding the Town's name, "Town of Indian Head."
