As used in this article, the following terms shall have the
meanings indicated:
PARKING
The standing of a vehicle, except a Police or Fire Department
vehicle or ambulance, whether occupied or not, upon or within designated
fire lanes otherwise than temporarily for the purpose of and while
actually engaged in loading or unloading or in obedience to traffic
regulations or traffic signs or signals.
The Board of Supervisors of Lancaster Township shall hereafter
have the authority to designate certain areas of both private and
public property as fire lanes. Said areas shall be clearly marked
and designated as fire lanes and shall be accompanied by appropriate
signs prohibiting parking in said areas so designated. The marking
and designating of said fire lanes shall be approved by an official
designated by the Board of Supervisors who, as a result of his position
with the Township, shall be qualified to determine whether the designation
of said fire lanes is necessary for the promotion of public safety
and health.
The parking of motor vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, horse-drawn
carriages or otherwise obstructing said fire lanes is hereby prohibited
at all times, and the parking or obstructing of said fire lanes by
motor vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles or horse-drawn carriages is
hereby deemed to be a violation of this article, subjecting the violator
to the penalties hereinafter prescribed.
Any person, firm or corporation who violates any provision of
this article shall, upon conviction, be deemed guilty of a summary
offense and shall be sentenced to pay a fine as established by ordinance
by the Lancaster Township Board of Supervisors and known as the "Schedule
of Fees," together with costs of prosecution. Such fines and costs shall be collected in a manner provided
by law for the recovery of fines and penalties for the violation of
Township ordinances; and in default of payment thereof, the violator
shall be imprisoned for a period not exceeding 10 days.
