Pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 40:56A-1 et seq. (Chapter 245 of the Public Laws of 1968) as amended, there is hereby created and established a commission which shall be known as the "Medford Lakes Environmental Commission."

The Medford Lakes Environmental Commission shall consist of seven members to be appointed by the Mayor, one of which members shall also be a member of the Medford Lakes Planning Board, and all of which members shall be residents of the Borough of Medford Lakes. There shall also be two alternates to be designated as "Alternate One" and "Alternate Two," who will be appointed by majority vote of the Borough Council. All of said members shall serve without compensation, and the Mayor shall designate one of the members of said body as the Chairperson and presiding officer thereof. The Borough Council may remove any member of said body (including alternates) for cause upon written charges and subsequent to a hearing, as required by law. A vacancy in said body shall be filled for the unexpired term in the same manner as the original appointment.

The first three members appointed to said body shall be for terms of three years from date of appointment. The next two members appointed shall be for terms of two years from date of appointment. The next two members appointed to said body shall be for terms of one year from date of appointment. All successors shall be appointed for three years, except for alternates, which terms shall be for two years.
