The provisions of this article and any contracts between the
City and the representatives of its employees shall be interpreted
in a manner consistent with N.J.S.A. 40A:10-23 and other applicable
state law.
The continued health benefits authorized by this article are
as follows:
A. To the retired or disabled City employee:
(1) Coverage under the City's health benefits plan, under the plan
applicable to his or her bargaining unit, from the date of retirement
until age 65.
(2) At age 65, medical coverage secondary to Medicare.
B. The dependents of the retired or disabled City employee shall receive
the same benefits as extended to the retired or disabled employee
during the lifetime of the retired or disabled City employee. The
benefits provided to said dependents shall cease upon the death of
the employee.
C. Medicare reimbursements will only be made if the eligible retiree
presents the City with a copy of the employee's or spouse's
Medicare card, as appropriate, within one year of the effective date
of the Medicare card.

Continued health benefits shall be provided by the City to:
A. All employees who have retired on a disability pension.
B. All nonuniformed employees who have retired after 25 years or more
of service credit in a State of New Jersey or locally administered
retirement system and a period of service to the City of Camden of
not less than 25 years.
C. All uniformed employees with 25 or more years in the PFRS and 20
years of service with the City of Camden.
D. Notwithstanding any other provision in this Chapter
103, employees (uniformed and nonuniformed) are not entitled to continued health benefits if the employee is separated for cause by the City of Camden for an incident that took place prior to the approval date of his/her retirement or disability pension.
The City may, to the extent consistent with state law, in its
contracts with its employees' labor representatives, agree to
benefits that differ from those extended herein. Said contracts shall
require ratification by the City Council of the City of Camden.

Effective May 24, 2010, the City of Camden will no longer make
opt-out incentive payments to any employees, including current employees,
retired employees and employees on a disability pension (uniformed
or nonuniformed), who waive any health care benefits coverage pursuant
to N.J.S.A. 40A:10-17.1, notwithstanding any other provision in the
Camden Code and/or collective bargaining agreement to the contrary.
