For any and every violation of any provision of this chapter, the owner, agent or contractor of any structure or of any land where such violation has been committed or shall exist; and the owner, general agent or contractor, lessee or tenant of any part of a structure or land, in or on which part such violation has been committed or shall exist; and the general agent, builder, contractor or any other person who commits, takes part or assists in such violation or who maintains any building or premises in which such violation shall exist, shall be guilty of an offense and shall be punishable as provided in Chapter 1, General Provisions, Article II, Penalties for Offenses.

For any and every violation of any other provision of this chapter and upon failure to comply with written notice thereof or order to remove such violation within 10 days after service of such notice or order or any extended date of compliance granted in accordance with the provisions of this section, the owner, agent or contractor of any structure or of any land where such violation has been committed or shall exist, and the owner, general agent or contractor, lessee or tenant of any part of a structure or land, in or on which part such violation has been committed or shall exist, and the general agent, builder, contractor or any other person who commits, takes part or assists in such violation or who maintains any building or premises in which such violation shall exist, shall be guilty of an offense and shall be punishable as provided in Chapter 1, General Provisions, Article II, Penalties for Offenses, for each and every day or part thereof during which such violation continues after said 10 days, or, if an extension of time is given by the Building Official, for each and every day after the extended date.
In addition to such prosecution for an offense aforesaid, each such violator shall be liable for any expense to which the village may be put in eliminating such violation in addition to a penalty of $500 to be recovered by the Village of Garden City in a civil action, except that in cases where the violator has failed to comply with the aforesaid notice, he shall be liable to such penalty for each and every day or part thereof that such violation continues after said 10 days or after expiration of the extended date of compliance, as the case may be.
