A Junior Firefighter's Auxiliary is hereby established.
Membership shall be limited to those persons who are at least 16 years old.
Applicants must complete the required applications and must obtain the written consent of their parent or legal guardian.
Applicants must pass a physical examination or establish their physical capability to perform the duties of a junior fireman. Physical examinations will be reimbursed by the Borough of Totowa up to $50.
Applicants must be interviewed by the Line Officers, with their parent and/or legal guardian present.
All junior firefighters must comply with the following rules:
A. 
They must observe all rules and by-laws of the fire department and fire company and must demonstrate an active interest in the fire company and its functions. Junior firefighters will be required to observe the direction of the officers and members of the fire department.
B. 
Junior firefighters will not deliberately and/or willfully misuse, damage or destroy fire department equipment or property.
C. 
The school grades of junior firefighters will be monitored and if the junior firefighter's grade average falls below a "C," said junior firefighter will be suspended or restricted from firefighting and/or the firehouse until such time as the junior firefighter can show sufficient evidence that their grades have improved.
D. 
No junior firefighter may be in the firehouse unless a member is present.
E. 
A curfew of 11:00 p.m. will be observed at all times, with the exception of approved fire department functions. Junior firefighters may not leave school to attend any fires of fire department functions.
F. 
Junior firefighters shall not be permitted to use Blue Lights.
Junior firefighters are required to be trained in basic fire operations, including but not limited to:
A. 
Fire stream operations.
B. 
Ladder operations.
C. 
Rescue operations.
D. 
Fire suppression.
E. 
Use of fire-fighting equipment.
A. 
At all times the rules and regulations set by the New Jersey Department of Labor as they pertain to children will be applicable. In addition, the activities of the junior firefighters are limited by N.J.S.A. 40A:14-98.
B. 
In addition, junior firefighters will not be allowed to perform duties which would expose them to the same degree of life hazard as a regular member of the fire department. Safety regulations include, but are not limited to the following:
(1) 
Junior firefighters will not enter any burning or unstable structure.
(2) 
Junior firefighters will always be seated in a secure position when riding on any fire apparatus.
(3) 
Junior firefighters will be issued "turn-out" gear. This equipment must be used at all fire calls and drills as necessary.
(4) 
Junior firefighters shall not be permitted to operate motorized power equipment such as the Jaws of Life, chain saws, vent saws, and etc.
