The Mayor is authorized to appoint and employ a qualified attorney
as City Attorney, with the approval of the Board of Aldermen.

The appointment of a City Attorney shall be for a term of one
(1) year beginning with the installation of the new City Officials
after the regular City election in each year and extending until the
installation of new City Officials after the regular City election
the next succeeding year.

The salary of the City Attorney shall be set by ordinance.

It shall be the duty of the City Attorney to attend all regular
meetings and all special meetings of the Board of Aldermen where his/her
presence is requested; to draft and prepare all ordinances, resolutions,
contracts and other regular papers required in the business of the
City and the Board of Aldermen; to consult with and advise with the
Mayor and other City Officials and the Board of Aldermen in the conduct
of the City's business; to advise the City Plan Commission and to
attend meetings of the Commission; to attend to such other miscellaneous
legal matters as shall be necessary and needed by the City. He/she
shall in addition handle all litigation in which the City is involved,
other than, Municipal Court cases, and shall be compensated separately
for such work.
