Owing to the density of population within certain areas of Athens Township, it is a considered opinion of the Board of Supervisors of Athens Township that the use of firearms within said areas of Athens Township shall be controlled and prohibited.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
FIREARMS
Include but are not limited to shotguns, air rifles, BB guns, spring guns, pistols and rifles, rim-fire or center-fire.
RESIDENTIALLY POPULATED AREA
The following described areas situate in Athens Township shall be considered to be "residentially populated areas" within the meaning of this chapter:
A. 
An area bounded on the north by South Waverly Borough; on the east by Sayre Borough and Athens Borough; on the south by Athens Borough; and on the west by the low-water mark of the east bank of the Chemung River.
B. 
An area bounded on the north by the center line of Satterlee Creek; on the east by the center line of State Highway 080081 and Township Road No. TR 874; on the south by State Highway 080081; and on the west by the low-water mark along the east shore of the Susquehanna River.
A. 
It shall be unlawful to discharge a firearm within a residentially populated area of Athens Township.
B. 
It shall be unlawful to discharge a firearm in such a manner that the projectile thereof shall pass in or through a residentially populated area of the Township of Athens.
C. 
Said prohibition shall not apply to target practice conducted on a site under the supervision of an adult over the age of 21, provided that said site and supervision shall be approved, in writing, by the Chief of Police of said Township. Said approval, when granted, shall be subject to withdrawal at any time by said Chief of Police; however, no approval shall be longer than one year unless renewed. The Chief of Police shall base his standards of granting or withdrawing approval upon consideration of the responsibility of said adult and the appropriateness of said site with respect to any danger involved to any nearby residents.

Any person who violates any of the provisions of this chapter shall be guilty of a summary offense. Upon conviction thereof, such person shall be subject to a fine of not less than $100 nor more than $500 for each and every violation.
