As used in this chapter, the following terms
shall have the meanings indicated:
Transportable units (with or without wheels) used primarily
for temporary storage of building materials, household goods, personal
items, business goods and/or products including inventory and other
materials for use on a limited basis. The minimum size of such units
subject to this chapter shall be either 640 cubic feet, or any such
unit that has a length, width or height of 10 feet or more.
A.
A permit shall be required for use of a portable storage
unit within the Town of Malta. One such unit shall be allowed on a
lot if there is a valid building permit issued by the Town of Malta,
and such use may only continue so long as that building permit remains
valid. Upon the expiration of the building permit, or if more than
one storage unit is placed on the site, a separate permit for the
storage unit shall be required.
B.
A permit shall be obtained from the Town of Malta Building and Planning Department prior to the placement of the portable storage unit on a parcel of land in the Town of Malta. A permit specifically issued for the use of a portable storage unit shall be effective for a period of one month at no cost. Such permit may be renewed for an additional one month at a cost as set forth in Table A to Chapter 88. No additional renewals shall be permitted, and no additional permit issued in the same calendar year if such permit would result in a portable storage unit being on the same parcel for more than two months in such calendar year.

A.
This chapter shall not apply to registered trailers
and travel trailers.
B.
Construction sites with approved site plans are exempt
from this chapter during their construction period.
C.
This chapter shall apply to all such units currently
located upon such lands two years from the date of enactment of this
chapter.
