Editor's Note: The preamble to the ordinance creating this Commission reads:
"The Town of Stratford and the United States of America have an obligation to honor veterans who risked life and limb and for those that made the ultimate sacrifice for the preservation of the freedom we enjoy today; and . . . the Town of Stratford wishes to maintain its memorials located on Academy Hill dedicated to these great citizens who served their country and wishes never to let any monument fall into disrepair again."
The Commission structure:
A. 
Consist of at least nine members and no more than 11 members.
B. 
The Mayor shall appoint the Chairman of the Commission. The Chairman shall not be a Council member.
C. 
All members shall be appointed by the Mayor, in accordance with the Charter.
D. 
The term in office of each member shall be four years.
E. 
The Mayor shall appoint vacancies.
F. 
Meet once each quarter.
G. 
At least one member of the Commission shall be from the Department of Public Works, selected by the Mayor.
H. 
At least two members of the Commission shall be high school students, one from each high school, selected by the Board of Education, who shall serve for a period of one year and shall serve as ex officio nonvoting members. The students will not be part of the 11 members or the nine members commission structure as cited in Subsection A; approved and appointed by the Mayor.
I. 
At least one member of the Commission shall be from the historic district; approved and appointed by the Mayor.
J. 
At least two members shall be veterans from Stratford.
The objectives of the Commission are:
A. 
Oversight, disbursement of funds and complete control of the Monument Trust Fund.
B. 
Raise public and private funds for the Monument Trust Fund.
C. 
Periodically (at least once a year) advise the Town Council as to the status of the monument located on Academy Hill.
D. 
Periodically advise the Town Council as to the status of the Monument Trust Fund.
E. 
Direct and advise the Mayor for the repair, improvement and maintenance of the monuments.
