All elective and appointive city officials of the City of Kingston and all employees thereof, in addition to the salaries to which they may be entitled, shall be allowed the traveling expenses necessarily incurred by them in the exercise and performance of their assigned municipal duties.

No city official or employee shall operate their own vehicle for city business unless they maintain a policy of automotive insurance with at least a minimum liability coverage amount as required by law. A copy of said policy shall be provided, if requested, by the Mayor or Corporation Counsel.
A. 
All elective and appointive city officials and employees thereof who are required to use their private automobiles or motor vehicles on city business shall be paid monthly for such use at the following rates:
(1) 
Twenty cents per mile for the first 500 miles per month.
(2) 
Nineteen cents per mile for the second 500 miles.
(3) 
Eighteen cents per mile for each mile in excess of 1,000 miles per month.
B. 
Claims for mileage and travel expenses shall be itemized and shall be made by voucher duly verified by the claimant and shall be presented to the department, board or commission authorizing the expenditure or to the Common Council in such cases as are properly under the jurisdiction of such Council. Disposition of claims shall be made in accordance with the rules and regulations and practice of the proper department, board, commission or Common Council.
This article shall take effect immediately.

The City of Kingston may pay all or a part of the cost of the uniforms and necessary equipment of its police officers and firemen.
