All new street names or proposed renaming of street names shall be submitted to the 911 Committee for comment prior to being submitted to Council for approval.
The following factors, as prioritized below, shall be considered when evaluating identifiable concerns:
A. 
Number of residents/businesses affected (renaming).
B. 
A Glassboro resident who died in the line of duty, while serving in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. Service with an armed force other than the U.S. will not be considered.
C. 
A Glassboro resident who was held as a prisoner of war while serving in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.
D. 
A Glassboro resident who served the Borough in a public service position for a minimum of 20 years. This might include a board or committee member or officer, a Councilman, Mayor or a volunteer who served the Borough. The individual would not have to have served the Borough in the same position for the entire 20 years.
E. 
Historical significance. Something or someone who made a considerable contribution to the Borough, such as the Stanger and Whitney families did, or the "Normal School."
F. 
Date that the street was created.
G. 
Street name contributes to a constant theme (e.g., "Bulldog").
H. 
Street forms a boundary with or extends into a municipality outside the Borough.
I. 
Landmark: well-known street or safety-related (e.g., with a hospital).
J. 
Cost to replace signs.
The following are criteria for street names:
A. 
A street name shall be appropriate and not offensive.
B. 
No street name will be considered if the first four letters are the same as another street within the Borough. Any names that have similar pronunciation (e.g., Allen or Alan, Lee or Leigh) shall be avoided.
C. 
Street names duplicative of an existing street name in the Borough shall be avoided (e.g., Pine Street and Pine Lane).
D. 
Use of frivolous or complicated words or unconventional spellings in street names shall be avoided.
E. 
Discriminatory or derogatory names based on race, sex, color, creed, political affiliation or other social factors shall be avoided.
F. 
Use of special characters in street names such as hyphens, apostrophes or dashes shall be avoided.
G. 
Letters or initials shall be avoided.
H. 
Names for public streets that could cause trademark issues shall be avoided.
I. 
The use of standard suffixes or street types, directional suffixes or prefixes as part of street names (e.g., North Blvd., Court St. Avenue or the Pines) shall be avoided.
J. 
All roads within complexes shall be named and all structures shall be addressed individually.
K. 
Directional prefixes will be used only when necessary.
L. 
Street names shall be no more than 18 characters long.
