The position of Animal Control Officer for the City of Peekskill is hereby established.
The Animal Control Officer shall be under the immediate supervision and control of the Chief of Police for the City of Peekskill and shall perform such other duties as a special officer as the Chief of Police may direct, which may include but not be limited to the enforcement of other City ordinances.
The Animal Control Officer is hereby constituted a peace officer for the purpose of enforcing the terms and provisions of the Agriculture and Markets Law and all local laws and ordinances pertaining to or prohibiting the running at large of dogs or other proscribed matters with respect to dogs in the City of Peekskill.[1]

The compensation to be paid to the Animal Control Officer shall be fixed by resolution of the Common Council of the City of Peekskill or shall be fixed in accordance with the provisions of the annual budget of the City of Peekskill.
Pursuant to § 119 of the Agriculture and Markets Law, the Animal Control Officer shall serve at the pleasure of the Common Council.
In addition to the Animal Control Officer, any police officer, a duly authorized special officer and the City Clerk are hereby authorized to enforce the provisions of the Agriculture and Markets Law and all local laws and ordinances pertaining to dogs in the City of Peekskill.
