It is the purpose of this article to provide
for the identification and marking of buildings with truss-type construction,
for the further purpose of providing for increased safety for the
occupants of such buildings and emergency personnel who may be called
upon to assist in the case of fire or other damage occurring in such
structures.
The provisions of this article shall apply to
the owner and occupant of any building or structure of truss-type
construction, as determined by the Fire Official.
As used in this article, the following terms
shall have the meanings indicated:
EMBLEM OR FIRE DEPARTMENT EMBLEM
An emblem constructed of reflective aluminum or plastic,
containing letters at least 3/4 of an inch in height, identifying
a truss-type building, in form and size approved by the Fire Official.
FIRE OFFICIAL
The Chief of the Fire Prevention Bureau of the Borough of
Maywood, the Chief of the Fire Department of Maywood or their designated
representative, as defined in Section 5:18-1 of the New Jersey Administrative
Code.
OWNER/OCCUPANT
Any person, firm, corporation or other entity having a legal
ownership or leasehold interest in a building or structure.
TRUSS-TYPE CONSTRUCTION
A.
A single plane of framework of individual structural
members, connected at their ends to form a series of triangles to
span a distance greater than would be possible and bearing a greater
load than would be possible with any of the individual members alone,
regardless of the materials used in their construction, referring
to but not limited to the following shapes and common names: King,
Post, English, Pratt, Fink, Warren Howe, Baltimore, Pettit, Bowstring,
Parker, K. Truss, Stadium, Cantilever, Bascule, Joist, Bar Joist and
others.
B.
"Truss-type construction" is further defined
as truss, joist, beams and other manufactured wooden structural support
members which have a fire rating that is 75% or less of corresponding
solid wooden support members, including manufactured joists and beams
using plywood or similarly manufactured laminated material held in
a vertical plane (truss joists, I-beams or comparable structural members).
Upon receipt of the initial notice set forth in §
179-37B above, the owner/occupant shall pay a fee of $25 for the registration and administration costs of this article. Such fee shall be exclusive of any costs incurred in the purchase and installation of emblems, as provided for herein. If the Fire Official provides the emblems to be used in identifying the structure under this article, he shall provide the same at actual cost, as billed, to his Bureau or Department.
In accordance with N.J.A.C. 5:18, there shall
be a penalty of $500 for failure to comply herewith, plus an additional
penalty of $100 for each day of continued noncompliance.
