It is the purpose of this article to provide for the identification and marking of buildings with truss-type construction, for the further purpose of providing for increased safety for the occupants of such buildings and emergency personnel who may be called upon to assist in the case of fire or other damage occurring in such structures.
The provisions of this article shall apply to the owner and occupant of any building or structure of truss-type construction, as determined by the Fire Official.
As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:

Any person, firm, corporation or other entity having a legal ownership or leasehold interest in a building or structure.
TRUSS-TYPE CONSTRUCTION
A.
A single plane of framework of individual structural members, connected at their ends to form a series of triangles to span a distance greater than would be possible and bearing a greater load than would be possible with any of the individual members alone, regardless of the materials used in their construction, referring to but not limited to the following shapes and common names: King, Post, English, Pratt, Fink, Warren Howe, Baltimore, Pettit, Bowstring, Parker, K. Truss, Stadium, Cantilever, Bascule, Joist, Bar Joist and others.
B.
"Truss-type construction" is further defined as truss, joist, beams and other manufactured wooden structural support members which have a fire rating that is 75% or less of corresponding solid wooden support members, including manufactured joists and beams using plywood or similarly manufactured laminated material held in a vertical plane (truss joists, I-beams or comparable structural members).
A.
The provisions of this article shall be enforced by the Fire Official through the Fire Prevention Bureau of Maywood. Said Bureau shall be responsible for providing information and guidance to the owners and occupants of truss-type premises on the purchase and installation of Fire Department emblems.
B.
When the Fire Official has identified a structure as being of truss-type construction, he shall notify the owner/occupant thereof, in writing, of the requirements of this article in accordance with the Uniform Fire Code of the State of New Jersey.
C.
Upon receipt of such notification, the owner/occupant of the structure shall be required, within 30 days, to affix to the structure a permanent emblem in such form and at such locations as directed by the Fire Official. The Fire Official may provide the emblem or direct the owner/occupant to obtain the appropriate emblem from any approved source. The Fire Official shall provide the owner/occupant with a reasonable number of alternative sources for such emblems, if said Official does not provide them through the Fire Prevention Bureau.
D.
The owner/occupant shall be required to maintain the Fire Department emblem at the approved locations, at their own expense. Missing or damaged emblems must be reported to the Fire Official and replaced within 14 days of written notice to do so from said Official.
E.
In the event that structural modifications are made to the building or structure identified as a truss-type construction hereunder, the owner/occupant shall notify the Fire Official of the plans therefor, and shall comply with any changes in the identification emblem placement that may be directed by the Fire Official, as a result of those modifications.
Upon receipt of the initial notice set forth in § 179-37B above, the owner/occupant shall pay a fee of $25 for the registration and administration costs of this article. Such fee shall be exclusive of any costs incurred in the purchase and installation of emblems, as provided for herein. If the Fire Official provides the emblems to be used in identifying the structure under this article, he shall provide the same at actual cost, as billed, to his Bureau or Department.
In accordance with N.J.A.C. 5:18, there shall be a penalty of $500 for failure to comply herewith, plus an additional penalty of $100 for each day of continued noncompliance.
