Unless otherwise expressly stated, the following terms shall,
for the purpose of this chapter, have the meanings indicated below:
ALARM SYSTEM
Any device designated for the detection of an unauthorized
entry or other unlawful act on a premises or for the detection of
a fire, or both, which, when activated, produces a signal, which signal
is caused to be transmitted by the system to the County Dispatch Center
or the District and/or which signal, if produced by a device designed
solely to detect fire, is caused to be transmitted in an audible manner
to the general area surrounding the premises.

ALARM SYSTEM OPERATOR
Any person or business that operates a receiving device designed
for the detection of an unlawful act or for the detection of a fire,
or both, who in turn by telephone or other means transmits such information
to the Police or District.

APPROVED
Accepted by the Fire Chief as a result of his investigation
and experience or by reason of test, listing or approval by Underwriters'
Laboratories, Inc., the National Bureau of Standards, the American
Gas Association Laboratories or other nationally recognized testing
authorities.
DISTRICT
The Riverside Fire District.

DWELLING
A building occupied exclusively for residence purposes and
having not more than two apartments.
FALSE ALARM
A.
Any of the following:
(1)
The unintentional activation of an alarm system by the owner
or lessee of an alarm system or by an employee or agent of either.
(2)
The activation of an alarm system by mechanical failure or malfunction
because of improper maintenance of the alarm system.
(3)
The activation of an alarm system because of improper installation
and/or use of the equipment.
(4)
The intentional activation of an alarm system where no unauthorized
entry or commission of an unlawful act or fire exists.
B.
The above subsections do not include false alarms caused by
abnormal weather conditions, act of God, or by prior arrangements
made for the testing of the alarm system.
ICC CONTAINER
Any container approved by the Interstate Commerce Commission
for shipping any liquid, gaseous or solid material of a flammable,
toxic or other hazardous nature.
MULTIFAMILY HOUSE
A building occupied as the home or residence of individuals,
families or households living independently of each other of three
or more units.
PERSON
Includes a person, persons, firms, partnerships, companies,
associations and corporate bodies.
