There is hereby created in the City of Hackensack, County of Bergen and State of New Jersey, an office to be entitled "Assistant Prosecuting Attorney."

A. 
The Assistant Prosecuting Attorney shall be appointed by the City Council of the City of Hackensack for a term of one year commencing on July 1 of the year of his or her appointment and continuing until the appointment of his or her successor.
B. 
The Assistant Prosecuting Attorney shall be retained as an independent contractor and will not be an employee of the City of Hackensack.
C. 
The Assistant Prosecuting Attorney shall receive such retainer, compensation, or fee as fixed by said City Council.
The duties of the Assistant Prosecuting Attorney shall include but not be limited to the following:

To aid and assist the Prosecuting Attorney[1] in carrying out the duties of his office.

To aid, advise and assist the Police Department and the Hackensack Municipal Court in all matters over which the Municipal Court has jurisdiction.
