Editor's Note: This local law passed at mandatory referendum 11-8-2016; it was originally adopted as Ch. 29, § 29-1, but was renumbered for organizational purposes.
The term of office of elective Town Clerk of the Town of Amenia shall be four years. Such four-year term shall commence on the first day of January following the first biennial Town election after the effective date of this article.
At the biennial Town election next following the effective date of this article, and every four years thereafter, the Town Clerk shall be elected for a term of four years.
This article shall supersede in its application to the Town of Amenia § 24 of the Town Law of the State of New York and any inconsistent local law, ordinance, or resolution with respect to the term of office of elective Town Clerk.
This article shall be submitted for approval by mandatory referendum to the electors of the Town of Amenia at the next general election to be held on November 8, 2016.
This article is submitted pursuant to the authority vested in the Town pursuant to Municipal Home Rule Law § 10, including but not limited to § 10(1)(ii)(a)(l) and 10(3)(ii)(d)(3).
This article shall take effect immediately upon filing with the New York State Secretary of State after approval of a majority of the electors voting thereon in accordance with the requirements of § 27 of the Municipal Home Rule Law.
