The elected officers of the township shall be the members of
the Township Committee and such other officers as may be provided
by law. All elected officers shall continuously be and remain residents
of Montague Township.
All elected officers shall hold office for the terms allowed
by law beginning on January 1 next following their election. The term
of the Tax Assessor shall begin on July 1 next following his appointment.
The Township Clerk shall hold office for three years, and the Tax
Assessor and Tax Collector shall hold office for four years, all subject
to any right of tenure prescribed by law.
Any person appointed by the Township Committee to fill a vacancy
in any elective office, except the office of the Tax Assessor, shall
hold office only until January 1, and any person appointed to fill
a vacancy in the office of the Tax Assessor shall hold office only
until July 1 next succeeding his appointment. If a vacancy occurs
before the next succeeding July 1, the Township Committee may fill
the vacancy in the manner provided by law.
