It is the intent of this legislation to permit the holding of games of chance within the Town of Shelter Island in accordance with the New York State Constitution, Article I, § 9, the New York General Municipal Law, Article 9-A, § 185 et seq., and Rules and Regulations of the New York Racing and Wagering Board and subject to approval by a majority of the electors of the Town of Shelter Island.
The conduct of games of chance shall be permitted within the Town of Shelter Island in accordance with and subject to the New York State Constitution, Article I, § 9, the New York General Municipal Law, Article 9-A, § 185 et seq., and Rules and Regulations of the New York Racing and Wagering Board, all of which are hereby adopted and made applicable to the Town of Shelter Island.
This chapter shall not become operative or effective unless and until it shall have been approved by a majority of the electors voting on a proposition submitted at a general or special election held within the Town of Shelter Island who are qualified to vote for officers of the Town of Shelter Island.[1]
