A. 
There shall be an Assistant Assessor of the Borough of Middlesex appointed by the Mayor, and confirmed by the Council.
B. 
The Borough Tax Assessor will also be officially charged with the duty to make assessments for local improvements pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:56-21 et seq. and to perform such duties as prescribed by statute to make appropriate assessments for all Borough improvements and to make such report to the municipal council as described in N.J.S.A. 40:56-26 and N.J.S.A. 40:56-30.

The duties of the Assistant Assessor shall be as follows:
A. 
Under direction of the Tax Assessor, assists in establishing a system of valuations for both real and personal property; does related work as required.
B. 
Works under the general direction of the Assessor who reviews performance for effectiveness and compliance with policies and procedures of the Borough.
The qualifications of the Assistant Assessor shall be as follows:
A. 
Graduation from high school or its equivalent.
B. 
A minimum of two years experience in a New Jersey municipality in the assessment valuation of real and personal property, or equivalent technical or supervisory experience with a qualified revaluation concern doing work in the State of New Jersey; or equivalent experience with a County Board of Taxation or the State Division of Taxation.
C. 
Possession of recognized appraisal and/or assessment designations obtained after completion of examination of. training courses designated as PMA 1 and PMA 2, or such training courses as are presently in effect as administered by Rutgers, the State University.
D. 
A general knowledge of the state and municipal laws, rules and regulations, policies and procedures applying to assessments for tax purposes. Ability to work diplomatically with the general public.
The Assistant Assessor shall receive such compensation as shall be established by resolution or ordinance.
