[§ 8-1 of the 1967 Code]
The Select Board shall annually appoint an attorney-at-law
to act as Town Counsel. It shall be the duty of the Town Counsel,
when required by any Town officer, board of Town officers, or any
committee of the Town, to furnish a written opinion on any legal question
that may be submitted to Town Counsel in regard to any matter which
concerns the Town officer, board of Town officers, or committee requesting
the opinion, and Town Counsel shall at all times furnish legal advice
to any officer of the Town who may require Town Counsel's opinion
upon [a] subject concerning the duties incumbent upon said officer
by virtue of their office.
