The owner or owners, occupant or occupants of each and every dwelling house, store or other building which now fronts or may hereafter front upon any of the streets or public places within the Town of Belvidere shall cause the same to be properly numbered in accordance with the directions and requirements of this chapter, the numbers to be in figures of at least three inches in height placed respectively on the front of each dwelling house, store or other building.
For the proper numbering of the said dwelling houses, stores or other buildings, reference shall be had to the map prepared for that purpose by the Ordinance Committee heretofore appointed and now on file in the Clerk's office of the Town, which said map, by reference thereto, is to be deemed a part of this chapter.
In case of doubt or of difficulty in applying the plan as indicated on the said map to the numbering of any dwelling house, store or other building, application shall be made to the Mayor and Street Committee of this Council, a majority of whom are hereby given full power and authority to settle and adjust the same, their said determination to be final, to be reduced to writing and filed with the Town Clerk.
The numbering of the dwelling houses, stores and other buildings now fronting or which may hereafter be built and front on any street at present existing and not provided for on said map or that may front on any street hereafter to exist within the Town shall be done in such manner as the Mayor and Street Committee of this Council or a majority thereof shall in writing order and direct, which written order, signed by the officials consenting thereto, and any sketches in connection therewith shall be filed in the office of the Town.
All dwelling houses, stores and other buildings within the Town located on streets plotted on the said map shall be numbered pursuant hereto within three months from the final adoption of this chapter. All such dwelling houses, stores and other buildings hereafter to be built and erected fronting on said streets shall be so numbered within a like period after becoming fit for occupancy, and all such buildings located or to be located on streets not now or at the time of their completion plotted on said map, within a like period after the filing of the written order provided for in § 194-4 hereof.

The owner or owners, occupant or occupants of any dwelling house, store or other building failing or refusing to number or cause the same to be numbered in conformity with the provisions of this chapter shall be punishable by a fine of not more than $500 or by imprisonment for not more than 90 days, or both.
This chapter shall not be deemed to be or construed in any wise to be an acceptance by the said Town as a public street of any road, street or highway denoted hereon which has not heretofore been recognized and acknowledged by its authorities so to be.
