There is hereby created and established the position of Director of Economic Development in the government of the City of Hackensack. The Director of Economic Development's appointment by the City Manager shall be at the pleasure of the Council, and this Director shall receive such compensation as shall be provided annually by ordinance.[1]

It shall be the duty of the Director of Economic Development of the City of Hackensack to:
A. 
Research, study and evaluate the economic development of the City of Hackensack on an ongoing basis, with particular attention to the development and redevelopment of areas within the City which may be appropriate for such consideration.
B. 
Make recommendations to the Mayor and Council for the development of such areas and the zoning of such areas for residential or commercial purposes.
C. 
Prepare such advisory reports and perform such other duties as may from time to time be requested by the Mayor and Council concerning the feasibility of certain proposed projects.
D. 
Make recommendations to the Planning Board or the Board of Adjustment that may be requested concerning applications for development presented therein.
E. 
Design and implement campaigns to attract industrial, commercial and other economic development into the City.
F. 
Undertake an inventory and the securing and promotion of sites whose development is to the economic benefit of the City.
G. 
Assist prospective developers in securing financing for development projects.
H. 
Arrange and coordinate City services necessary for specific economic development projects.
I. 
Keep appropriate statistics and data to indicate trends in economic development, and make evaluations and recommendations concerning the same.
J. 
Review and make recommendations concerning economic development aspects of the Comprehensive Master Plan of the City.
K. 
Coordinate the City's economic development efforts with those of other governmental bodies and agencies.
L. 
Administer all federal, state, county and local aid programs pertaining to economic development in the City, except as otherwise provided by law.
