[Amended 2-26-1991; 3-25-1991; 4-22-2014 by Ord. No.
2014-03]
Penthouse or roof structures for the housing
of stairways, tanks, ventilating fans, air-conditioning equipment
or similar equipment required to operate and maintain the building
and fire or parapet walls, skylights, spires, cupolas, steeples, flagpoles,
chimneys, water tanks, silos, radio and television antennas or similar
structures may be erected above the height limits prescribed by this
chapter, but in no case more than 25% more than the maximum height
permitted in the district, except that silos, water towers and amateur
radio antennas shall have no height restrictions. There is an exemption
from the height limitations contained in this chapter when a structure
is required to be raised to meet state or federal flood elevation
standards. This exemption also applies to the construction of a staircase
or other attendant structure necessitated by such raising. This exemption
from the height limitations shall apply only to the minimum extent
necessary to allow the structure to meet the new elevation requirements
with adequate means of ingress and egress.
