There is hereby established within the East Hanover Fire Department (EHFD), Bureau of Fire Prevention, the LEA of the municipality, a Fire Investigation Unit, herein said unit shall be known as the East Hanover Fire Investigative Unit (EHFIU).
Under the supervision of the Fire Marshal, who shall herein be known as the Bureau Chief, the EHFIU under N.J.A.C 5:71-3.3(a)25, shall investigate or cause to be investigated, every reported fire or explosion occurring within the jurisdiction that involves the loss of life or serious injury or causes destruction or damage to property within the municipality and/or when called upon outside the boundaries of the municipality through established mutual aid agreements and/or memorandum of understanding (MOU).
A. 
Said unit shall be under the supervision of the Bureau Chief, who shall serve as the unit's supervisor. The Bureau Chief shall establish the operating guidelines, policies, and procedures of the unit. The Bureau Chief shall coordinate and report all activities of the EHFIU to the Fire Director.

Said unit shall be jointly comprised of personnel from the EHFD and the EHPD. EHFD Fire Investigator(s) shall be considered for assignment to the unit upon recommendation from the Bureau Chief and approved by the Fire Director. EHPD Fire Investigator(s) shall be considered for assignment to the unit upon recommendation from the Chief of Police and approved by the Fire Director.
C. 
The Fire Director shall determine the number of such Fire Investigators(s) needed to operate the EHFIU. Fire Investigator(s) shall meet all applicable local, county, state, and federal certifications and/or requirements sanctioned by the Fire Director and Chief of Police.
The EHFIU shall investigate and properly document all fires and explosions the East Hanover Fire Department responds to unless specifically called upon from another jurisdiction to assist. The unit shall maintain a close working relationship with the EHPD, Morris County Prosecutors Office, and/or the N.J. Division of Fire Safety.
