The provisions of N.J.S.A. 40A:9-146 et seq., establishing the office of Tax Assessor in the Borough, are hereby accepted and adopted.
The Tax Assessor shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Borough Council.
The Tax Assessor shall be a person qualified pursuant to N.J.S.A. 54:1-35.25 et seq. and any amendments thereto.
The Assessor shall hold office for a term of four years from the first day of July next following his/her appointment, in accordance with N.J.S.A. 40A:9-148. Vacancies due to other than expiration of the term shall be filled for the unexpired term only.
Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 54:1-35.1, any Assessor who is reappointed after the expiration of the initial four-year term has tenure during good behavior and efficiency and may only be removed for cause. Under N.J.S.A. 54:1-35.31, any removal proceeding against an Assessor must occur before the Director of the Division of Taxation after due notice.

The compensation of the Assessor shall be set by the Borough Council by appropriate ordinance.[1]

N.J.S.A. 40A:9-165 requires that the salary of the Tax Assessor may not be decreased, nor shall the Tax Assessor be denied without good cause any increase in salary given to all other municipal officers and employees.
