The Board of Selectmen (the Board) shall be and is hereby authorized
and empowered by majority vote to appoint a Constable or Constables
to serve the Town of Lyme in lieu of such Constable or Constables
being elected under Connecticut General Statutes § 9-200
as may be amended from time to time.
A Constable may be appointed upon the expiration of the term
of office of any elected Constable. The term of office of any such
appointed Constable shall, as provided for in Connecticut General
Statutes § 9-187, expire upon the termination date of the
term of the Board making such appointment.
Any vacancy in the office of Constable may be filled by majority
vote of the Board for the unexpired term of such office.
Any incumbent appointed Constable may be removed by majority
vote of the Board.
Prior to assuming office or within 30 days thereafter, each
appointed Constable shall take the oath of office pursuant to Connecticut
General Statutes § 7-88.
