There is hereby constituted and created a paid Fire Department in and for the City of North Wildwood, in the County of Cape May, New Jersey, which said Department shall consist of a Chief and as many paid firemen as shall be determined and deemed necessary by the Public Safety Committee of said City to properly protect the lives and property of the inhabitants thereof; and which said paid Fire Department shall at all times be governed by the Public Safety Committee of said City and at all times be under its direction, supervision and control.

The City of North Wildwood has notified Civil Service that City resident applicants to the paid North Wildwood Fire Department, who pass the civil service examination, are to be entitled to priority over nonresidents as long as it remains lawful to do so. A resident applicant, for the purpose of this section, is one who is a resident of the City of North Wildwood on the date of his or her application and continues to be such a resident up to the time of his or her appointment.

The Public Safety Committee shall have full power and authority to appoint, suspend, try and remove all members of the paid Fire Department and to make, amend, repeal and enforce rules and regulations for the government, direction, management and discipline of the paid Fire Department; but nothing herein shall be deemed to repeal any of the existing rules and regulations of the said Department.
