As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
MINOR CHILDREN
Any minor child or children of a volunteer fireman under the age of 18 years and unmarried.
PENSION
The maximum annual amount allowed by the Laws of 1957, Chapter 168,[1] and as may be hereafter amended by the Legislature of the State of New Jersey.
VOLUNTEER FIREMAN
A member of any Volunteer Fire Department of the Borough of Totowa.
WIDOW
The unremarried widow of a volunteer fireman.

Any widow or minor children of a volunteer fireman who died as a result of injuries sustained in the course of the performance of duty as a member of any Volunteer Fire Department of the Borough of Totowa shall be entitled to receive an annual pension of $2,500 as hereinafter provided.
Said annual pension shall be paid to the widow of such deceased firemen during her widowhood, and, upon her remarriage, said annual pension shall be paid in equal portions to the minor children, if any, of such deceased fireman; or shall be paid in equal portions to the minor children, if any, of said deceased fireman if he leaves no widow surviving him; or shall be paid in equal portions to the minor children, if any, of said deceased fireman after the death of the widow of said deceased fireman.
There shall be appropriated in every annual budget for the Borough of Totowa an amount sufficient to meet the payment of any such pension as herein provided.
Any pension that may become due and payable, as herein provided, shall be paid in the same manner as municipal employees are paid.
